It's not really the old "choice" argument that's key in this sentence, its "not something as trivial as "sexual orientation"" - similar to Special Snowflake Syndrome.
They believe that the sexuality of heterosexuals, bisexuals, male homosexuals, etc. (plus lesbians who don't agree with their ideology) is "trivial sexual orientation", whereas their sexuality is SUPA SPESHUL, and certainly not "trivial" like everyone else's.
